Punch and Judy to return to town this weekend

PUNCH and Judy will be making a return to town this weekend.

Children's entertainer Ian Zippy Lee has brought back the puppet show which has proved a hit with generations of youngsters.

But gone are Punch's bad habits such as being rude and hitting people with his wooden plank.

Ian said: "Punch is now a reformed character who is nice to his wife and very polite to the local community support officer."

All the old favourites will be there including the crocodile trying to steal sausages and shows will run throughout the day on Bridge Street this Saturday as part of the town centre Diamond Jubilee street party.

Tampa strip club gears up online for GOP convention

Tampa strip club gears up online for GOP convention

Her stage name's "Go-Go", and she's drawn crowds to the Tampa strip club, 2001 Odyssey, for 5 years.

RNC clients can keep paying dancers once they return home.

"Meet a girl here and fall in love with a stripper, then they're able to still talk to her online from wherever they're from," Go-Go said.

"People from out of town," Go-Go said. "They can do private performances on the pole for individuals who are online paying.

"I had a customer from New Jersey whom I've talked with many times online and he saved up his money," she said.

"It offers the RNC crowd the opportunity to see it in person while they're here, then go back to where they're from and still be clients," Kleinhans said.

"They compare it to three to five times a Super Bowl revenue," Kleinhans said.

"Watch the stage.

For $19.

Go-Go's act is broadcast live through a revolutionary system -- called ClubCams -- in the adult entertainment industry. See them perform," explained ClubCam and 2001 Odyssey owner, Don Kleinhans.

The club admits they've lost seven dancers to their decision to stream performances, but they've added more than 30 new girls to their roster.

Both Go-Go and Kleinhans expect to continue making money long after the RNC leaves town.

Go-Go can even chat with 500 customers at a time who pay $4 a minute.

Their next plan is to link up with hotel chains so the live streaming web dances are an option on hotel room televisions.

Clubs picks of the week

Clubs picks of the week

100% Silk could probably lay claim to being the hippest record label in the world right now.

After a successful debut session back in March, local tech and progressive house heads Dirty Dirty Underground are about to make the short trip from Bolton to host their second party in Manchester. She's joined by former hardcore punk guitarist Daniel McCormick, who now produces compelling, pockmarked proto-house under the name Ital, and off-beam Baltic pop queen Maria Minerva. What's more to their club outings, the Argonaut crew regularly play festivals, record their own material and host the Argonaut Sounds Reggae Radio Show, one of the longest running shows on the University Of Glasgow's in-house station, Subcity Radio. Inevitably, the 100 percent Silk crew have garnered almost as much opprobrium as they have praise, primarily because they are perceived by some genre stalwarts as house music arrivistes. So it's appropriate that Bristol's biggest dance space should go all saucy retro glam tonight and host a night of burlesque, magic and vintage dancing. It's hosted by slick dance troupe Flaming Feathers, so expect retro 40s and 50s sounds to go with the troupe's stunning array of vintage routines. This afternoon's street party may not have jubilee jelly and ice cream, but it will have hot street food courtesy of Kimchi Cult, La Piadina Pronta, and The Rib Man, and unimpeachable deep house from New York's Wolf Lamb and Hamburg's Stimming. But their naive entreaties to the dancefloor have resulted in some refreshingly screwy manoeuvres.

It may not be able to boast two of the land's most successful football teams but there are some things Bristol does really well. Vocal contributions come from Miss Laura Mai while close-up sleight of hand is offered by street magician and freakshow king Simon South.

Despite a surge in popularity during the 1980s when Musical Youth, Aswad and Eddy Grant topped the charts, reggae music has always been a little bit niche. You can add burlesque to that list, too; the city boasts some of its most esteemed practitioners.

Krankbrother are promoters who refused to be constrained by bricks and mortar. One such bass-based venture, Argonaut Sounds, have now been running their foray into reggae, dub and dancehall culture for a decade, which they mark with a birthday party featuring live performances, free CDs, posters and memorabilia, soundtracked by the DJs' top picks from the past decade. From 10pm, the party continues inside, where Guti, Simon Baker and San Fran trio PillowTalk will hold court.

Vancouver International Children's Festival celebrates attendance boost

The Vancouver International Children's Festival seems to have put its difficulties behind. We couldn't have asked for a more enchanting festival experience.

"This year exceeded our expectations," she said in a news release. All in all, it was a welcome change of fortunes for VICF artistic and executive director Katharine Carol.

Unlike last year, this year's festival centralized activities to the south side of Granville Island, which kept parents and kids from having to cross heavy traffic.

LIVE NATION ENTERTAINMENT, INC. : Fashion Is Still Madonna's Passion

Madonna's MDNA Tour which opened in Tel Aviv on May 31st( )includes over 700 costumes elements, six costume changes for the Material Girl and costume changes for the dancers with each song.

"In the spirit of having the opportunity to create characters and further inform the narrative of the show, I purposely choose to collaborate with not just fashion designers, but also with artists like Desi Santiago, Michael Schmidt and Erik Halley," added Phillips. "I see Madonna as one of the greatest performing artists and entertainers of our generation," commented Phillips, a two time Oscar nominee, who has collaborated with Madonna for over 15 years and four tours. And it's so great to create designs that people can buy and have a little bit of Madonna in their own life," remarked Phillips. We don't come to Madonna for rock es including, of course, a nod to her own past glory. Madonna's infamous attention to every last detail has called for every costume to be painstakingly assembled by Phillips and her team to match Madonna's vision of making each song an entity on to itself.

Madonna's own fashion line, Truth or Dare including intimate apparel and shoes is well represented on the tour.

Madonna and pal Jean Paul Gaultier have taken their longtime gender-bending provocation of male and females roles to new heights and together have created a specially designed cage corset.

Madonna's MDNA World Tour is in support of her MDNA album which debuted at No. We come to her for an unparalleled super pop spectacle, and that's what MDNA, as an album and tour, set out to prove: no one does provocative pop better, and no one, even now, looks cooler doing it.

14th annual Rhode Island Scottish Highland Festival

14th annual Rhode Island Scottish Highland Festival

The 14th Annual Rhode Island Scottish Highland Festival takes place at the Washington County Fairgrounds, Route 112 in Richmond, this Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.

Albannach is Scots-Gaelic for Scottish or Scotsman and that is exactly what the band members are. The two singers sing of their home with beautiful and powerful lyrics.

New this year, professional athletes will be competing in the Heavy Athletic Games. American food will also be available.

Other entertainment includes MacTalla Mo'r, soloist Charlie Zahm and the Celtic Harpers. and the official opening ceremonies take place at 11:30 a. at the dance pavilion. There will be sheep herding demonstrations, solo piping/ snare drum/drum major competitions and much more for entertainment.

Want to join the competition? There are less intense activities such as the Haggis Hurl, Rolling Pin Toss, Bonnie Knees contest and the Wellington Boot Toss to bring out the Scotsman in you.

The gates open at 9 a. Not just a pipes and drums band, this band brings energy and an exciting pace with the percussion's bass drummer Jamesie Johnson, Colin Walker on the snare drum, Jacquie Holland on bass drum and Aya Thorne on the bodhran. Donnie MacNeil is a world class bagpiper, which gives Albannach a bespoke synergy of harmonic sounds that intensify or slow down the tempo of the percussion.

If that is not enough, you can check your ancestry in the Clan Village. The vocals interchange with Johnson's strong voice and Holland's haunting vocal skills.

For kids there will be plenty of activities and children entertainers throughout the day to keep the wee little ones laughing and smiling. Ample parking is free and the fairgrounds are handicap accessible with handicap parking.

Listen to the sound of the bagpipes as pipe bands from around the state compete in the Pipe Band Competition.

The Vinyl Word

The Vinyl Word

One fateful night in a London club sometime in 2008, a DJ dropped Mama Used to Say by Junior and everyone cleared the dance floor, everyone except for a boy and a girl from Paris.

The band is scheduled to play a live show at The Wall next Thursday, where they are inviting a third musician to the stage to tackle electronics.

They went on to make a handful of remixes for Two Door Cinema Club, Metronomy and Anoraak, before all this music production finally landed them on the renowned French label, Kitsune. "The story is 100 percent disco: a girl meets a fantastic dancer in a club with whom she's going to live a truly romantic story.

They consider remixing essential to their inspiration and an interesting departure from what they usually produce.

The two connected again and worked on Starlighter, the first song the pair released together, which went viral on the underground music blogosphere.

"With Juicy Lucy we attempted to show the many sides of Jupiter, beyond the disco-pop flavor of songs like Starlighter," they said of the album. Like Sister Sledge's He's The Greatest Dancer in a way.

Then on June 4, Jupiter released its debut album, Juicy Lucy, which shot to number two on the French iTunes chart the day after it was released.

"The live aspect is extremely important to us as we consider ourselves more as pop musicians than an electro act: we did not want to play live hidden behind a laptop," they said of their live show.

"Pop culture in general, but music in particular," they said, explaining their influences.

"It's very rewarding work because you build a new track around vocals or a riff; this is the way we usually start writing songs, but with remixes you work around someone else's idea, it's truly refreshing," said the twosome.

"We are Quarles and Amelie, a boy and a girl both living in beautiful Paris.

But as for their current trajectory, they say Jupiter's sound is difficult to describe because they try and mix as many influences as they're able to in their music. It's like a vintage piece of equipment, it might be obsolete in certain ways, but for certain uses it can't be matched.

Find free fun at the Dufferin youth festival

The Dufferin Children and Youth Festival will return to the RioCan Fairground parking lot for its 18th year on Saturday (June 9). The no-charge policy, with the exception of food, is the committee's way to make the event an inexpensive day for families in Dufferin. "They can have the whole day and not spend any money. "And there goes the whole concept of having a free fun-filled day for families. to 3 p. "If you have one, two or three kids, and each booth is selling something, it adds up," O'Brien-Curtin said. Due to popular demand, the festival will have three bouncy castles this year. The event's master of ceremonies, Joe Andrews, director of Humber College's Orangeville campus, will host an elimination contest to find a winner for free pizza for a year from Pizza Pizza. " For the last two years, the festival's planning committee has taken a stand and decided to go back to the fundamental principles, changing the laws for vendors who won't be allowed to sell any products or services. Of course, the event will include information booths and displays set up from several of Dufferin's various not-for-profit children-oriented agencies. " Headlining the children's entertainment on the main stage will be Brian Morcombe of Music With Brian, who was recently nominated for a Juno award. , as festival organizers have rock-climbing, mini-putt, games, children's entertainers, and even a chance to win free pizza for a year lined up. "Sometimes dads don't show, and sometimes moms don't show, but it is a family thing and it doesn't cost any money," said festival organizer Joan O'Brien-Curtin. "We have a lot of young families here that we're catering to.

Boom! Percussionist can't beat this gig

Boom! Percussionist can't beat this gig

It's been a long and winding road of rhythm for Louie Cruz Beltran, who's worked the restaurant and late-night club circuit for years to make a living. My song 'Rumba Chula' was a song I wrote about 10 years ago.

"There's only so many clubs to play in Bakersfield.

Another big name that stands out in the credits is legendary Cuban saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera, who assisted with an arrangement of the Cal Tjader Latin jazz standard, "Soul Sauce (Guachi Guaro. To actually record with them. "To have those guys in the studio, you know you're going to have something special. These two guys are innovators for me. They're all good carpenters who know how to build a house of music. I carry my roots with me no matter where I go, right here in my corazon. He assembled some well-known players in the Southern California and coastal jazz scene he's befriended through the years to back him in the studio: pianist Joe Rotondi, saxophonist Justo Almario, plus notable guests like saxophonist Hubert Laws, acclaimed percussionists Poncho Sanchez and Giovanni Hidalgo, drummer Peter Michael Escovedo, bassist Abraham Laboriel, and on backing vocals he recruited brother Robert -- whom many know as Commander Chakotay from the "Star Trek: Voyager" TV series.

"When you finally have an opportunity to do a project like this, you wanna make certain you work up to it and get the army together. I'm a percussionist by nature -- that's what I do. You can hear people talk and hear the thumbs up. There was complete respect for my music and compositions.

"Paint the Rhythm" is an accessible and consistently entertaining collection of songs that harkens back to '70s-era crossover offerings of Latin rock and jazz percussion icons Coke Escovedo and Willie Bobo.

Next up is a silky mid-tempo cover of Burt Bacharach's "The Look of Love," also sung by Beltran, who adds a cool, soulful touch to the lounge classic. Some are faithful to the original arrangements, others offer new touches, heavily leaning toward traditional Afro-Cuban stylings.

"I've always needed to play timbales on Tito Puente's 'Ran Kan Kan. I also had to pay tribute to my Chicano brother, Carlos Santana, because, wow, what an influence he was with many musicians and understanding the crossover concept. It's fate mixed with a resume for them to book you," he said. Bottom line is, it's your band. "When you work with cats of this caliber, one of the things I noticed is that they really don't give you advice; they see it as your baby. They walk in and work as part of the overall picture. Behind the congas and timbales, he shines when it's his turn to solo. And, like his influence, Poncho Sanchez, who helped introduce new fans to Latin jazz, Beltran should have no problem doing the same with "Paint the Rhythm.

Beltran said he appreciates all of the support he's received from his hometown on his Playboy Jazz Festival honor, with special shout-outs to his patient wife, Christina, and loving mother, Auralia.

"This is a great thing.

"My manager was doing some financial stuff for a rehearsal studio in Burbank. ' I said, 'Cool, man . ' I canceled rehearsal and went partying," Cruz recalled during a recent telephone interview in Bakersfield.

Also appearing with Beltran on June 16 are the Christian McBride Big Band, Boney James, Ozomatli, Sheila E. The June 17 line-up features Ramsey Lewis Electric Band, Robin Thicke, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Keb' Mo', Terri Lyne Carrington's Mosaic Project, and more.

Diamond rocks out with kids at Teddy Bear fest

Diamond rocks out with kids at Teddy Bear fest

After more than a quarter of a century as a children's entertainer, Charlotte Diamond takes pleasure in the unexpected. Let's educate them in that language. ". Let's get them to feel that they have more ability within that language.

"He had the audience in the palm of his hand," she said during a phone interview at a home near San Francisco.

Diamond said she loves nothing more than performing before local crowds - many of whom grew up learning her famous songs such as I Am A Pizza, Four Hugs A Day and Octopus (Slippery Fish) - and she also enjoys singing in French and Spanish, too.

Still, vocals aren't the only method Diamond communicates in: She also incorporates American Sign Language.

And Diamond has many opportunities all through the year to be entertained at her own performances.

Diamond, a former school teacher, majored in biology and French at UBC and picked up Spanish through conversation with her Latin American friends on campus.

At that event, she'll also work with teachers to encourage them to write their own songs.

For example, last month, Diamond played a French/English concert at Dallington School in Ontario; the next week, she performed six concerts in French for the Duffering-Peel Catholic school district; and, later this month, Diamond will be part of a Spanish/English conference in Newport Beach, Calif.

"Their English can only be helped by that because the more children are interested in books and reading and singing in a language, the more fluent they become in language," she said.

"California is finally picking up on the fact that they have this large population that speaks Spanish and they've been cutting back part of their education out of the curriculum," she said.

"Now I'm at the stage of being a grandma and wanting to be near home," said Diamond, whose five- and two-year-old grandkids live in Pitt Meadows. It is definitely part of my show," she said.

Saturday Night Fever Is Stayin' Alive Thanks To The Disco Ball

Saturday Night Fever Is Stayin' Alive Thanks To The Disco Ball

It's been 35 years years since the leisure suits and swiveling pelvises of Saturday Night Fever seized the world, and producer Vito Bruno is honoring that with his Disco Ball on Saturday, June 23 at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.

"It was great to watch all the actors and crew one by one do the famous Travolta pose for photos on the dance floor. We restored the item and it was recently used on the Glee episode Saturday Night GLEEver.

"They rapidly withdrew the item from the auction since I was the only one bidding on the most famous piece of movie memorabilia in the world.

And he owns a piece of it!

"When the building that housed the club was sold," says Bruno, I went to the poorly attended auction and was the highest bidder for the Dance Floor.

Furthermore, the Ball is hosted by Wendy Williams and will feature tributes to Donna Summer and Robin Gibb.

If you doubt Bruno's connection to the classic disco film, he happens to have worked at 2001 Odyssey club, where Saturday Night Fever was filmed, when he was 19.

"I have court documents along with certificate of authenticity.

And where can you do that these days? Well, Bruno keeps the floor in storage in Brooklyn.

JUBILEE SLIDESHOW Hot competition among cake bakers and hat makers at Rhodes garden party

MORE than 1,500 people enjoyed a royal knees-up at the Rhodes 'Whatever the Weather' Diamond Jubilee street party in Bishop's Stortford.

There were some wild and wacky designs on display in the children's Jubilee hat competition.

Other attractions at the South Road arts centre included children's entertainer Mr Muddle, face painting and traditional sports day races, including sack and egg-and-spoon events.

Meanwhile, Water Lane restaurant the Lemon Tree manned the barbecue and there were also cupcakes, a popcorn stand, a Pimms tent and licensed bar.

Rhodes operations director Paula Holland said: "It was absolutely fantastic and we were totally overwhelmed by the support.

A competition in the style of TV's Great British Bake-Off attracted about 25 scrumptious entries, which were judged on taste and appearance by the doyennes of baking, the Bishop's Stortford Women's Institute.

Indoor and outdoor stages saw performances by local dance, drama and music groups including Graham School of Dance, Herts and Soul Community Choir, Phoenix Theatre School, Bedazzle, Bishop's Stortford Musical Theatre Company and Isamar Martins Zumba Fitness. More than 500 people took part in the treasure hunt in the museum.

"It was lovely to see the residents of Bishop's Stortford making the most of their premier community venue and to welcome lots of new individuals who have never been to Rhodes before.

Kids' Fest crowds some of the biggest ever

The latest edition of the Northern Alberta International Children's Festival might have been the biggest and best yet, says the festival's director.

"The whole week was wonderful, but Friday and Saturday, there was record attendance on the weekend," Abrahamson said.

"It was an average of 21 C all week - it was amazing," Abrahamson said.

Of course, a major factor in that success was the weather, with hardly a drop of rain falling for the entire five days.

But, like all good entertainers, the show must go on. Parents loved it

Michael Bolton To Play Seneca Niagara Casino

When you hear the name Michael Bolton most people"s first thoughts would be of the music" of the trademark unmistakable voice on songs like "Soul Provider", "How Can We Be Lovers", the soulful rendition of "When A Man Loves A Woman" and "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You", which incidentally won him his first Grammy award.

When I caught up with Bolton recently, as he took time out of his crazy, hectic world-wide tour, we talked about some of these things along with what decade was his favorite as a music fan and as a performer.

You may be a music buff or a Bolton fan fanatic knowing the singer-songwriter has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry like Lady Gaga, Ray Charles, Kennny-G and Ne-Yo.

It does not matter what comes to mind when you hear the name Michael Bolton, you can"t deny the contributions this amazing singer, songwriter and social activist has made all over the world.

Kids, parents go bananas for Monkey Bunch

Kids, parents go bananas for Monkey Bunch

The members of the Monkey Bunch never expected to be performing rock concerts for toddlers. Grownups will be rude and yell stuff at a comedy club but kids will just fall asleep or they'll say 'Why are you doing that?' " she said. "You may have told me I'd be doing this 10 years ago and I'd be like 'no way.

"They've played with all of the really big musicians in Canada so they bring a musicality to what we do that I think is really unique to children's music," said Sperling.

The five-foot woman, who has studied clown and theatre, brings something very different to the group.

The group decided to record a CD, thinking they'd sell a few and then forget about it.

Even though she never pictured herself performing regularly for children, Sperling said the experience is amazing. The band hopes to empower children with messages about confidence and environmentalism, but there are plenty of purely silly tunes, too.

It's not often you will find a kids' group with such serious chops as the Monkey Bunch.

"There are some people who will say you shouldn't talk about poop, but I say why has it taken so long to talk about it," said Sperling.

Sperling describes the band's live show as a rock concert with lots of audience participation. While the guys played music, she acted and performed comedy. One song in particular, Poopie Diaper, gets a big response from kids.

"Because I did comedy for a great many years it's very different. The two musicians and Sperling eventually moved to Toronto to pursue different things. Drummer Lyle Molzan completed the group when they decided to pursue children's entertainment.

Children probably won't be impressed by the guest appearances, but the Monkey Bunch is all about getting the parents in on the fun, too.

"We give it to kids and let them decide if it's kids' music, and it is. We can give kids real music and real comedy and not talk down to them.

To date, the band has two full-length albums. "We want to ensure that what we're doing isn't saccharine sweet or annoying.

"One year we didn't have a Christmas gift for them and we recorded a quick little thing of three songs and sent it off," said the group's frontwoman Shoshana Sperling.

Rain fails to stop Jubilee fun in Beccles and Bungay

Rain fails to stop Jubilee fun in Beccles and Bungay

Rain, what rain?

That was the feeling emanating through Beccles and Bungay as people braved the dismal weather for Jubilee celebrations on Sunday.

In Bungay, a street procession paraded from Scales Street car park and through the town, before commencing at the Old Grammar School Field where people enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment. ".

But the main events came from the warm notes of Leiston Royal British Legion and a performance by the Crystalette Twirlers whose quick-handed baton spins brought cheers and applause from the crowd.

A collection of stalls lined the perimeter of the green, while some people managed to squeeze beneath a parasol to have a picnic. " .

Organiser Loraine Loffstadt, 61, of Beccles, said: "60 children have been given Jubilee mugs and special goody bags including Jubilee medals.

In a speech, the mayor of Beccles Graham Catchpole said: "Even if you are someone who has doubts about the role of the monarchy within our constitution.

The festivities continued in the town centre with a Lotus car display, a host of entertainers, in addition to a children's party at the public hall.

The mayor of Bungay Terry Reeve, said: "I am absolutely delighted with the support the people of Bungay have shown today.

"And despite the weather, many individuals turned out for the parade.

Wallace Baine, Baine Street: When Gay Pride was all about 'Staying Alive"

Wallace Baine, Baine Street: When Gay Pride was all about 'Staying Alive"

In 1977, in the teeny tiny fingernail-sliver of a space where the vast Venn-diagram circles of the fans of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the fans of the Bee Gees intersected, there stood one scrawny, zit-faced, long-haired, slope-shouldered teenager.

In the summer of 1979, for instance, some knucklehead decided to stage a "Disco Demolition Night" to destroy disco records at Comiskey Park in Chicago between games of a White Sox double-header.

I got to see something similar happen even before that at an outdoor rock show when the lead singer of some deservedly forgotten rock band started bad-mouthing disco on stage, feeding on the roars of the crowd, while bringing out a bunch of vinyl LPs to break one by one.

As Gay Pride comes upon us again -- the first, we should note, since a sitting president affirmed the universal right to marry -- I hope that during all those parties and barbecues that someone might raise a glass to Donna Summer and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, two greats of the disco era who died recently, and remember disco as an important cultural moment when gays first tentatively stepped out into the pop-culture mainstream.

If you do not remember, disco first emerged out of the New York underground "discotheques" in the early 1970s, mixing thumping electronica beats with Rty and bullying animosity.

I was too thick to notice that the most virulent anti-disco sentiments were often liberally sprinkled with the range of gay-baiting slurs commonly used in those days.

Of course, in those days, you didn't broadcast your love for disco too loudly when among the rockers.

Of course, as a straight white male, I was, demographically anyway, part of the outgroup who was supposed to resent the rise of disco.

I was just a music nerd at the time, genuinely puzzled on why battle lines had to be drawn between these two styles of music.

Showtrain premieres in Orange

Showtrain premieres in Orange

Presented in a fusion of musical styles that writer and composer Andrew Worboys calls vaudevillian/rock, 'Showtrain' is the story of a bunch of carnies trying to save their showtrain from being sold to a mining company. .

Premiering a major new musical in a regional setting offers challenges but also advantages.

The world seen on stage will be a snapshot of Australia in the mid 1950s.

"An identity crisis was happening. It was perhaps because of this that the live touring shows and boxing tents were shut down in favour of family friendly rides.

The musical has been developed over a couple of years with professional staged readings and workshops in Sydney.

Cecelia Rochelli, founder of That Other Theatre Company, saw a workshop of Showtrain in Sydney last year and suggested to Andrew that he might like to premiere it in Orange, with a local cast and Robert Dunn directing.

The show tests the performers' skills in song, movement, acting and even circus.

"His description of a train, which toured with a boxing tent, freak shows, girly shows and circus, was so colourful and evocative.

The story centres around Jimmy Roper, an outsider: "a 50 % aboriginal bloke looking for his father. It's a story about identity, place and belonging".

Andrew Worboys grew up in Orange and is now a successful composer, video designer, graphic designer, vocalist, pianist and musical director.

He co-produced the original Australian soundtrack of Hedwig And The Angry Inch, and Jimmy Somerville's album Suddenly Last Summer, as well playing piano and singing backing vocals on the album.

"Instead of trying to secure funding, which is extremely difficult for a new work like this, we opted to workshop and rehearse the show over a lengthy period of time in order to get the show working as well as it possibly can," Worboys said. It will be hard to leave when it's over.

Showtrain rolls onto the stage at Orange Civic Theatre June 21-23. The next step is to pitch the show to a bigger production company.

"I read about the Showtrain in Jim Sharman's memoirs," creator Andrew Worboys said.

Accessing talented performers, though, was not difficult.

Jubilee events in north Northumberland at a glance.

Berwick will also have its own 'village show' when residents can show off their skills at baking, handicrafts and flower arranging - all with a jubilee theme.

The Berwick Diamond Jubilee Vintage Show will take place in the Town Hall on June 4 and Berwick residents are being invited to showcase their artistic and culinary talents in a large selection of classes, from decorated cup cakes for the very young aspiring chef, to a flag, patchwork or crochet in the craft class for adults.

COMMUNITIES across north Northumberland are putting together an exciting array of events to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

It has been organised by Berwick Rotary Club and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, with support from Berwick Town Council.

All profits from the day will go to help fund life-saving research into better treatments and cures for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

"This weekend offers us all a rare chance to celebrate together, whether in local street parties or at one of the bigger events around town. ".

Towns and villages have turned red, white and blue in anticipation of what promises to be a great occasion.

The main event in Berwick will be the jubilee party on the grassed area at The Parade (outside Berwick Barracks) on Monday, June 4.

There will also be children's entertainers, face painting, a magician and a lot more. cozens@berwick-tc.

Shops throughout Berwick are being invited to join the town's celebrations for the Diamond Jubilee and Olympic torch relay on June 14. It is hoped shops will keep their displays in place up to and including the torch relay. The street party will be a brilliant community event which will be an excellent way of raising money and awareness.

Michael Richardson of Berwick Rotary Club added: "We have supported Leukaemia schools competition to draw a picture of the Queen, with the very best entries being displayed in the marquee. Organiser Lorna Chappell said: "We are sure this'll be a fun day, and if it's a success we'll make Berwick's own show an annual event.

"We know there are some brilliant cooks, flower arrangers and artists in the Berwick area, and we have chosen categories perfect for young and old so there should be something for everyone.

"This is all about having fun and celebrating a happy occasion, so residents are encouraged to enter exhibits whether they expect to reach a winning standard or not.

There will be three marquees: a beer tent, a traditional tea/coffee tent with cakes, scones and sandwiches, and a live music tent. Following this there will be a tea dance until 5pm, with free entry but proceeds from tea and coffee being donated to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Entries will have to be delivered to the Town Hall in time for judging at 11am, and will be on display from 1pm to 2.

Mayor John Robertson said: "Berwick is already looking festive in the lead-up to the Diamond Jubilee weekend, with 6km of bunting, new flags across the bridge and a fresh coat of paint on lamp-posts and bollards - and the events planned, mostly by volunteers, should offer something for everybody.

"Over 25 shops have already entered the shop window display competition, and we know that local enthusiasts in baking, arts and crafts and floristry are busy preparing for our own Berwick Jubilee Fete in the town hall.

Swift gives $4M for children's music centre

Swift gives $4M for children's music centre

Taylor Swift has taught a generation of kids to appreciate country music over the last five years.

Swift's education centre will have its own exterior entrance and is 7,500 square feet-plus spread over two stories. The expansion also would allow the museum to begin new programs and workshops and for teens and senior citizens as well as continuing workshops.

She has a long history with the museum.

The 22-year-old singer-songwriter is country music's top-selling artist and current ambassador to the world. I was only joking.

"For Taylor to want to engage herself in the life of this place in such an appropriate way . pop charts. The new space will house interactive activities such as a musical petting zoo and a "wet" classroom space to make concert posters and other art projects. I was joking we ought to be paying her to do that. Is there a better person out there who's in touch with a young audience? I think not.

The new education centre is part of the museum's $75 million "Working on a Building" expansion project that will improve the space more than 200,000 square feet to 350,000. She signed her record contract there. And she has donated her time to the museum's "All For The Hall" fundraisers.

"In terms of what it will allow us to do, we do education very well now," museum director Kyle Young said.

Donna Summer's death: pop mourns singer who transformed dance music

Donna Summer's death: pop mourns singer who transformed dance music

Stars of the music industry rushed to pay tribute to the hugely influential singer, whose tracks included I Feel Love and Hot Stuff. Summer denied making the comments, but was the target of a boycott. She later called the incident a "terrible misunderstanding" and asked for forgiveness. Prayers will be said to keep them strong.

Even as disco went out of vogue, her tracks remained a fixture in dance clubs, sampled and remixed into contemporary hits. "A poet once said, 'Life can be a challenge, life can seem impossible, but it's never easy when there's so much on the line.

I was asked to create a record by a young pop star recently and the brief I was given was: "Make it sound like I Feel Love.

The record was produced by Georgio Moroder, and really it was his vision.

She played the part incredibly, so there is no sense in which her contribution can be discounted.

For an entire generation - for bands like the Human League - it was so important, and its influence on house music and techno and everything else that followed is immense.

Summer's acting career included an appearance in Thank God It's Friday (1978), for which she performed her hit Last Dance.

The singer Dionne Warwick expressed her sadness at losing a great performer and "dear friend". It was certainly a key influence on my work with Duran Duran.

Sir Elton John released a statement calling for broader recognition for the singer.

It was released in 1977, which is a year that's supposed to be so important for punk, but along with Kraftwerk, it was this record that really changed everything.

The idea that dance music is about funk and about the groove was stripped away, and instead came something very robotic, this machine-like sound. "That she hasn't been inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame is a total disgrace, especially when I see the second-rate talent that has been inducted. " Kylie Minogue described her as "one of my earliest musical inspirations".

In the early 1980s, experiments with synthesizers and electronic drums carried Summer to new success.

Born LaDonna Adrian Gaines, Summer broke into the music business in her early 20s as a backing singer for Three Dog Night.

This record is unquestionably one of the most important records in the history of music as we know it today. '" The words are from The Power of One, which Summer recorded as the theme song for Pokémon: The Movie 2000.

Madonna tweeted "rest in peace",and linked to a video of herself carrying out a song inspired by Summer's I Feel Love. She is a great friend to me and to the Elton John Aids Foundation and I will miss her greatly.

Winner of five Grammy awards, disco queen had a string of hits in the 1970s, including Love to Love You Baby

This is the best kind of historically informed performance, one that makes you listen to a familiar work with fresh ears, writes Andrew Clements
