Farragut hosts children's book fest

Families are invited to get lost in a good book at the fifth annual "Farragut Book Fest for Children," presented by the Farragut Arts Council and the Knox County Library Farragut Branch from 10 a. Amulet Books, an imprint of Abrams, announced that a whole new book, currently untitled, was coming from "Wimpy Kid" author Jeff Kinney.

The event will offer storytelling, book signings and music. Cost is $25 for Knoxville Writers Guild members and $30 for nonmembers. Authors Sandi Schulte, "Rachel's New House," and Alex Tedford, "Firven the Warrior" and "The Wizard's Magic" will be on hand to meet participants while selling and signing their books. Children are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite storybook character.

Kallet is the author of 15 books, including "Packing Light: New and Selected Poems.

Limited to 10 participants, the workshop will serve as a fundraiser for the Knoxville Writers' Guild, of which she is a founding member.

Marilyn Kallet, director of the Creative Writing Program at the University of Tennessee, will lead a poetry writing workshop consisting of writing, prompts and publication advice from 10 a.

The book fest is free.

The new "Wimpy Kid" will come out in seven countries simultaneously, including Britain, Greece and Japan.
